DTC B0004-12: Short to Power in the Driver's Knee Airbag Inflator

DTC B0004-12 Overview

If a voltage on the detection line inside the SRS unit is higher than a specified value, the SRS unit determines an abnormality and stores the DTC.

Inspection Items

  1. Driver's Knee Airbag Inspection
  2. External Circuit RKA+, RKA- Shorted Wire Inspection
  3. SRS Unit Inspection

1. Driver's Knee Airbag Inspection

NOTICE:

Before disconnecting the SRS related connector, do the 12 volt battery terminal disconnection procedure and wait for at least 3 minutes.

NOTE:

Since there is no direct method to test the component itself, troubleshooting is performed on the related components.

  • Test Procedure

Driver's knee airbag circuit inspection
  • Preparation
-Driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector: disconnected
  • Procedure
-1.Perform the confirmation procedure.
  • Normal Conditions
-DTC B0004-12 is not indicated.
  • Results
If it is normal, there is a problem with the driver's knee airbag.
If it is abnormal, there is a problem with other related components.

External Circuit RKA+, RKA- Shorted Wire Inspection

  • Test Procedure

Preparation

-SRS unit connector A (43P): disconnected
-Driver's knee airbag inflator 2P connector: disconnected

Procedure

-Perform the inspection according to the following table.

Results

If abnormal, there is a problem in the circuit.

3. SRS Unit Inspection

■ Test Procedure

If the other inspection item(s) indicated a normal condition, then it is determined that the remaining SRS unit is the cause.

■ Results

There is a problem with the SRS unit.

Confirmation Procedure

Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
